Among rowers in the Northwest, Frank Cunningham is a legend. A great rower himself, the 84-year-old has been coaching for 60 years, including the last two decades at the Lake Washington Rowing Club in suburban Seattle.
Cunningham was a lightweight rower before World War II and then joined the fastest crew in the country in 1947 -- the Harvard Crimson varsity eight. That crew was inducted into the Rowing Hall of Fame in 1975.
"If I gave it up entirely," he says. "I'd be losing some part of myself."
KING 5 TV journalist Bill Skok recently met Cunningham and documented one of his coaching sessions. To see the KING 5 piece, please click here.
