The NCAA announced its 64-team fields for the 2006 NCAA Tennis Tournament Wednesday night, with Brown qualifying on the men’s side and Harvard and Penn qualifying among the women’s teams.

Brown and Harvard received the League’s automatic bids, while the Penn women were an at-large selection.

The Brown men (17-8 overall, 6-1 Ivy), who defeated co-Ivy champion Penn in a playoff to secure the Ivy’s automatic bid, will face Notre Dame (17-8) in the first round on May 13. The winner is slated to face No. 16 Texas A&M in the second round. The Aggies (14-10) face Texas-Arlington in Round 1.

The Harvard women (18-6 overall, 7-0 Ivy) face unseeded Purdue (13-10) in the first round on May 12 for the likely right to face host Northwestern (21-4), the tournament’s 11th seed.

Penn (12-5, 6-1), meantime, meets Tennessee (12-12). The Quakers would most likely face No. 6 seed Georgia Tech (21-5) in Atlanta if they advance.

If both teams win their first two matches, Harvard and Penn would face each other in the Round of 16.

Sixteen teams are seeded in both the men’s and women’s fields. The draw at each regional site consists of a top seed (1-16), a second seed (17-32), a third seed (33-48) and a fourth seed (49-64). The Brown men and the Penn women are listed as No. 3 seeds in their respective groups, while Harvard, ranked No. 17 in the nation, just missed out on being a top seed.
