Dawson Captures Third All-American Honor
Created: 12/17/2004 11:44:26 AM

The honors keep rolling in for Harvard running back Clifton Dawson as he has captured his third All-America honor of the season. Dawson, who set Harvard's single-season rushing and scoring records in 2004, has been named to the Associated Press Division I-AA All-America First Team. He was also honored as a first-team All-America by the Walter Camp Foundation and the The Sports Network earlier this month.

Columbia tight end Wade Fletcher and Harvard wide receiver Brian Edwards were AP third team selections. Edwards, who also returned kicks for the Crimson, was tabbed as an all-purpose player.

Dawson, a sophomore from Scarborough, Ontario, ran for 1,302 yards and 17 touchdowns as the Crimson finished a perfect 10-0 in 2004. He finished 10th in the balloting for the Walter Payton Award and became the first Harvard back to earn first-team All-America status since the legendary Barry Wood in 1931

Fletcher, a first-team All-Ivy pick from Littleton, Colo., was the Lions' top receiver with 52 catches despite missing the first two games of the season with an injury. He was third in the League in receptions per game (6.5) and sixth in receiving yards (71.9). In two years as a Lion, Fletcher made 111 catches for 1,449 yards. In his last game against Brown, he had 150 yards receiving on 13 grabs, marking the most catches in a game by a Columbia receiver since tight end Bert Bondi had 14 versus Cornell in 1996.

Edwards had not only a 50-catch season, but he also had four returns (kick or punt) for touchdowns and threw for another score. The senior wide receiver from Los Gatos, Calif. finished the season with 1,424 all-purpose yards for an average of 142.4 per contest. In addition to 646 receiving yards, he tallied 348 punt return yards and 321 kick return yards.
