In his career he started 52 of the 54 games he played and finished with three goals and six assists. As a freshman he appeared in only one game before suffering a season-ending injury.

Princeton seniors Matt Behncke (Williamsburg, Va.) and Mike Nugent (West Windsor, N.J.) were each selected in the 2002 Major League Soccer draft yesterday after playing in the senior All-Star Game on Saturday in Ft. Lauderdale, Fla. Behncke was the 18th pick overall and was drafted by the Dallas Burn. Nugent was selected 46th overall by the Chicago Fire.

Dallas received the first pick of the draft and selected Chris Gbandi from Connecticut. The Burn drafted Luchi Gonzalez of Southern Methodist with the sixth pick and then in the second round took Behncke, who was the first Ivy League player chosen. Nugent, who was drafted in the fourth round, was the second Ivy player to go. Yale's Brian Lavin went in the fifth round as the 57th overall pick.

Behncke was a unanimous first-team All-Ivy selection, scoring three goals and two assists in league play and six goals and five assists overall for a Princeton team that led the league in goals (34) and assists (36). He was named first-team All-Ivy as a junior as well.

Nugent led the Tigers to a 10-3-5 overall record and a share of the Ivy League title while being named a second-team All-America selection. Nugent was the Ivy League Player of the Year and a first-team Mid-Atlantic Region and All-Ivy honoree. He was named the Ivy League Player of the Week twice in his senior season while leading the team and conference in scoring with 12 goals and six assists. Nugent ended his Princeton career tied for fourth all-time in career goals and sixth for most career points.

Each Major League Soccer club is comprised of a 22-player roster. The 10-team league is divided into an Eastern and Western conference with the Chicago Fire in the East and Dallas Burn in the West. The 2002 MLS season commences on Saturday, March 23. Chicago opens at Columbus and Dallas hosts San Jose.
